Try this exercise:
Breathing, close your eyes and begin to tune into your body. On your inhale, notice the sensations of your body from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. On your exhale, simply accept these sensations as they are.
Try to accept the fact that you are having a body day without criticizing yourself or trying to escape from the feelings in your body.
Now, really immerse yourself in thoughts about your bad day. Think of the things that are bothering you and causing your stress levels to soar.
Notice how your body reacts.
What parts of your body tighten or contract?
Where do you feel discomfort?
Notice your posture – are your shoulders slouching?
Is your breathing shallow?
Again, just see if you can accept these feelings without judging yourself!
Now I want you to let your mind wander to a time when you were a kid when you were having a ton of fun! You were lost in play. Totally loving life.
What do you remember? What were you doing? What did it feel like?
Now, feel your body again!
Has the tightness and contraction relaxed at all?
What is your posture now?
You feel a ton less stressed don’t you?!
See- a shortcut to inner-peace!
For our final step, I want you to bring your thoughts back to the things that are causing you stress today. BUT … this time gently maintain the posture that you had when you were thinking about your joyful childhood play.
It’s so simple, but you can now face your stress with much more peace and clarity!
Take a few more deep breaths and then get on with your day!
