Reset Your Nervous System using Havening Techniques®

Nervous system regulation is the key to finding your center, soothing stress, and restoring balance to your life. By prioritizing this essential aspect of self-care, not only can you alleviate immediate symptoms, but you also pave the way for long-term resilience and vitality.

In this episode of Somatic Healing Meditations, I'll walk you through a quick and effective Nervous System Reset using Havening Techniques®. Havening is a potent tool for regulating the nervous system, as it helps calm the amygdala—the epicenter of our stress response deep within the brain.

Through gentle touch, Havening triggers the release of calming neurotransmitters like oxytocin and serotonin, promoting a sense of calm and relaxation. It also creates a safe space for emotional release, allowing difficult emotions to surface and dissipate, leading to greater clarity, resilience, and peace.


Emotional Processing and Nervous System Regulation

One of the most common misconceptions about nervous system regulation is that it's about avoiding or escaping our feelings. In reality, it's about expanding our capacity to feel and process emotions in a healthy way.

In fact, the unprocessed emotions within that we resist and avoid actually fuel more dysregulation and internal tension.

It's a paradox of the human experience: the more we resist our feelings, the more power they hold over us. But here's where the magic lies—when we regulate our nervous systems, we become more connected and compassionate so that we can more safely and capably face our emotions, which helps us transmute our pain into wisdom, and our fear into resilience.

Nervous system regulation isn't a journey of avoidance; it's a journey of embodiment. It's about expanding our capacity to feel—to sit with the discomfort, to listen to the whispers of our inner world, and to reconnect with the wounds and the wisdom within.

Because of that, the second part of this Nervous System Reset is devoted to acknowledging our feelings to help them move and process through while doing Havening. When we can acknowledge and feel our emotions in a healing way, we deepen our nervous system regulation significantly!
